Random Mumblings [Part II]

Why? Oh why?? Did I ever agree to do over time this week at work – I am absolutely shattered! I don’t know what it is – old age maybe (!) – but I just feel so physically knackered! Think I am also coming down with something!! What else??

You just know when you begin to feel the age you are when you bump your knee into something and the pain just lingers on for a few days [ahhhh to be young again … lol!!].

My big bro’s birthday is coming up soon – the big 3-0!! Wow!! He does not look 30 at all! But what do I get a guy who is more fussier than me? He’s invited me down to London for his birthday bash. Now all I have to do is try and get some time off work to go down!! [Oh and the little matter of finding him a decent prezzie...]

Moving on to football. The friendly match - England - 3 Hungary – 1
Not a bad match but the guys have to work a lot harder if they want to go all the way during the world cup [ btw … Becks … ;-) ].

My beloved nanni and nanaji arrived back from Pakistan on Saturday – but I didn’t get a chance to meet them until yesterday evening after work! I cannot believe they actually spent 6 long hot months there. I missed them dearly and was looking forward to sitting down and having a nice long ‘traditional’ chat with them … but unfortunately it didn’t actually pan that way.
My Urdu / Punjabi is very limited [in fact I would say it’s borderline non-existent!!]. I was so glad that my aunt was there to interpret! I don’t have a problem understanding but having a decent conversation in those languages - well you can forget it!
I blame my childhood!! Back when we were little innocent (!!) kids … my mum would speak to me and my big bro in Punjabi [we’d reply always in English] where as my dad would speak to us in English and Urdu [again reply in only English]. If you think I’m bad you should hear my bro speak!!! LOL!

Anyways peeps, I am going to try and get an early night. I soooo need a good night sleep!!

‘Nite all.

Vain? Me...?? No!!
You Are 45% Vain

You're a little vain, but more than anything you have a healthy amount of confidence.
Thinking the world of yourself is great. Just don't think less of those who aren't as pretty as you!
How Vain Are You?

Wow - I am not vain at all!! [not THAT much, anyways...]

Random mumblings…

It’s nearly 2am and I am wide awake and don’t think I will be going to sleep anytime soon, so I think I’ll just rant about anything and everything. I have so many things I want to say but where to begin….

Ok, so it’s a bank holiday weekend. Even though I am sooo glad that I don’t have to wake up at 6.30am on Monday morning to go to work, I am extremely bored! Have nothing planned and nowhere to go – my own fault really. I was adamant that I didn’t want do anything but chill this weekend. Oh well, suppose I can eat junk food, drink and watch DVD’s’s till Tuesday!

Could make my ‘site’ fancier using a variety of colours and fonts. Can I really be bothered though? Nah …. (“,).

It’s nearly June and the weather is absolutely abysmal! I know the British weather is supposed to be dull and wet, but COME ON, a little sun please!! I’m in dire need of a tan!!

Got the TV on in the background. Funnily nothing interesting is on! What is it with all these late night games shows?? Arghhhhhh!!! I am so frustrated!

I realise I am now beginning to chat about unnecessary crap – maybe it is time for me to hit the sack and force myself to sleep!!

Night all.

"Come on England!!"
Yes - I love football
Yes - I can't wait for the world cup
Yes - Rooney not playing is a major upset
Yes - I am sad and I need to get myself a life!! lol

Not long to go now – but unfortunately after the last England defeat, it’s not looking good. The inevitable will happen. England will start of well, score a couple of goals and all is good for the first half. However the second half is always a different story. The players begin to tire resulting in them to defend poorly – other team score twice as many goals quickly. End of game and England are out!

I’m being optimistic though! I will be cheering them on!! Will be watching all the games!! Can England clinch the World cup this year??? …… Nope …. But it will be fun to watch [especially Beckham … oh and all of the Italian players …..!! hehee!!]

Introducing Me, Me and finally ……. Me(!)

So, who I’m I? …… Well I often ask myself that but I’m endlessly searching for the answer!! Anways moving swiftly on – I am a 25-year-old living in one of the most multi – cultural cities of England and yet surprisingly I don’t have many Desi friends.

As mentioned below, I work in the offices of one of the largest banks in the world – ironically situated directly opposite the university that I spent 4 long, hard stressful but at the same time the most fun, enjoyable and memorable years of my life. I deal with branch and business managers, day in and day out [considering how high these guys are up on the Hierarchical system they know absolutely ‘f**k all!].

I am constantly harassed by aunti ji’s at family do’s, asking me when I am going to settle down – find myself a nice Pakistani munda, marry and have loads of babies. Not only do I get it at weddings and gatherings but also at work!! My friends and colleagues are determined to get me together with ANY guy that practically comes around the corner! Well sorry to burst anyone’s bubbles but I like my independent life right now [does that sound cruel?].

Anyways, one of my main reason to start ‘blogging’ was to make new friends across the world, especially any DESI’S!!!!

So anyone wana be my friend ……….. : - ) lol.

Later.

Killed ‘for falling in love’ – Honour Killings
I want to share with you all an article I read in my daily newspaper:

A Muslim woman was killed by her older brother and cousin after falling in love with the ‘wrong man’.

25 years old Samaira Nazir’s throat was slit by her OWN brother and cousin after she announced plans to marry a Muslim Afghan man she had fallen in love with. Samaira had approached her brother for his approval but he told her ‘I will make sure that this will never happen’ – two days later she was stabbed 18 times and had her throat slit before being left to bleed to death in the home she grew up in.

Shocking, sickening – just two of the many words that filled my mind while reading this article. This poor woman was brutally murdered by her own brother, her sibling, flesh and blood, the person she probably looked up to and loved.

The most unsurprising of all was that this did not happen in some remote village in Pakistan but right here in my own country [Southall, London]. It seems to be a regular occurrence; young Asian females being slaughtered by the hands of their own fathers, brothers, mothers – an endless list of family members!

A few months ago I read about a young Pakistani man who was killed by his Muslim girlfriend's father and brother when they found out she was pregnant and they planned to marry [I'm not too sure but I think this also occurred someplace in London]. He was brutally slaughtered while he sat in his own car!! I cant even begin to imagine what the girlfriend went through knowing that her own family killed the man she loved, let alone what his own family are and still feeling.

I totally despise the vile creatures that carry out such an act. How can anyone with a heart kill / hurt their own flesh and blood – a sister, wife, mother, brother – all on the basis of honour!!

My heart goes out to all of the many Muslims women [and men], around the world who are constantly being abused both physically and mentally and have to suffer the horrendous and vile so called ‘honour killings!’

Champions League Final
To all Arsenal fans – you have my deepest sympathies. All the players played well but it wasn’t meant to be.

Don’t usually watch many Arsenal matches [A Man U fan!] but that was a great match.

Have always been interested in football – watching as well as playing [that’s is what happens when you have an older bro!]. I’ve never actually met another Pakistani female who is keen on footie as I am and have been … or are there?? If there are any would love to hear from you!!

Next – the world cup!!! I for one will be watching all the England matches [Hope so anyways!!!]

COME ON ENGLAND!!!!

The Da Vinci Code
I personally cannot wait for this film [just a few more days to go]. The little previews on TV look fantastic!

Early last year when I graduated from university after 4 hard long years I’d decided to take at least a month to relax and do absolutely nothing apart from read. The Da Vinci Code, given to me by my bro, was one of the many books I read – it took me less than 24 hours to read! It was amazing and brilliantly written.

What can I say … I’m a sucker for a good conspiracy – thriller!!

20 little things about me
I ‘borrowed’ the following from ‘OpinionatedInJerzee’s’ site. Hope you don’t mind!

1) I am allergic to Kiwi’s – believe me even if the tiniest seed passed my lips I would be in big trouble!!
2) I have only been to Pakistan 4 times in my life – considering my family make a trip at least twice a year.
3) I wanted to be a fashion designer when I was a kid!
4) When I was 14yrs old, I stole from Virgin Megastore as a dare. The most stupid thing I have ever done – In fact a few years later I still felt incredibly ashamed that I confessed to my dear mum about what I had done. She was cool bout it [she knew I learned my lesson and that I never did it again]
5) I barely know how to speak in Urdu and Punjabi. Having a conversation with my nanni?? Forget it!! The conversation would go similar to this: starting in Urdu …… then in Punjabi … slowly intertwining Urdu / Punjabi …. Moving to a made up language and finally giving up and English starts rolling out [and this is just me trying to say how are you, nanni ji!!!!]
6) I’m an insomniac
7) My favourite colour is black
8) I can keep a grudge for a long time – I can be a moody bitch sometimes! But also incredibly shy!
9) My all time favourite song is "Dont Speak" by No Doubt
10) My height is 5” something – I am pretty short
11) Even though I am 25 years old [god!!] I still regularly get asked for my ID
12) I enjoy watching Pakistani drama’s – but rarely get the time to watch any nowadays
13) I get irritated when things are ‘out of their place’. I am a bit obsessive when certain items are not in their precise location [yes I know it’s sounds weird, but hey!] – I drive my colleagues crazy at work!
14) My favourite food / snack is popcorn – I can practically live on the stuff!
15) I have one older brother, whom I’m close to
16) I tend to get upset / stressed quickly
17) I work in the offices for one of the largest banks in the world
18) My music taste ranges from Noor Jehan, bhangra, RNB, Rock, Indie & music from the 80’s / 90’s [old skool!!!!]
19) I was named after a certain famous [late] female Pakistani pop singer
20) I enjoy going to the gym and playing badminton
